In the December issue of Railway Modeller, the Railway of the Month is Ellerton Road – an evocative 7mm finescale depiction of a Midland Railway terminus in the early 20th century, almost 50 feet in length and accurately recreating the operation of this company in the pre-Grouping era. Equally evocative of its chosen era is Worcester Road, a Gauge 1 model of an early 1970s Western Region diesel depot in a space of just 6ft x 2ft.
In smaller scales, we have a faithful recreation of the Hayling Island branch in OO gauge, together with Pont-y-dulais, an industrial yard layout that fits on an office shelf. In N gauge, there is London Ludgate, a fictional interchange station in the heart of the capital, using 3D jigsaw puzzles to portray the city's landmark buildings; while in OO9, Carol Flavin has reached an advanced stage with her Harland Light Railway layout, and we also feature Simonsbath, part of a much larger modular layout by the Dartmoor OO9 Group. Scale Drawings features 2mm scale diagrams and a 7mm scale model of the Somerset & Dorset Joint Railway locomotive shed at Bath.
As well as bringing you all the latest news from the model railway world, we have a bumper 13 pages of reviews this issue, featuring the new London Midland & Scottish Railway Turbomotive and BR Tyne Dock 9F from Hornby, the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway 2-6-2T and matching coaches from Lionheart Trains, the North British prototype diesel No.10800 from Heljan, and many more new items.
