THE showpiece individual meeting of the Cab Direct Championship season looms large at Redcar on Sunday – and in this week’s magazine, we talk to a man who knows what it’s like to win the event. Oxford’s No. 1 Sam Masters has two second division riders’ titles on his CV and will be aiming for a third this weekend. “Everyone wants more,” he says. “If I can keep going out and enjoying myself and winning races, then I’ll be happy. Obviously, you want to reach the Grand Prix series. But I don’t really set any goals or targets like that. You can only win as many races as you can. If you’re winning everything, then you can go to that next step. People say to me you need to get out of the Championship to go forward. But I think that’s a load of crap. Why do I have to drop the Championship to make the GPs? I don’t really think about it too much – I’d probably dishearten myself!”
