Blitzed magazine is a bi-monthly lifestyle and music magazine that magnifies and examines all things from the 1980s. The concept of Blitzed Magazine started as a music publication inspired by the Blitz club in London. The music they played there, bands who met there and artists who continue to be inspired by the club. As well as the people who went (or wished they had!)

As things have progressed we’ve realised that the ‘cult with no name’ means so much more. It inspired fashion and lifestyle, helped to promote a more inclusive society sexually and produced some of the icons of the last 40 years. Be enlightened, again, or for the first time. Blitzed – The Stars are Aligned…

In the latest issue of Blitzed, we have an exclusive interview with Propaganda’s Ralf Dörper and Michael Mertens as they return with the sultry, cinematic pleasure of their new album. We also chatted with 80s pop legend Kim Wilde as her classic albums were reissued. Meanwhile, pop icon Nik Kershaw discusses a new compilation of his work and his upcoming October tour.

 

There’s also an insightful archive interview with Steve Harley, producer Hugh Padgham discusses working with some of the greats in the music industry, singer and author Tessa Niles chats about her own impressive music CV and iconic Irish musician Gavin Friday returns to tell all about his new album.

 

This year, many albums are celebrating anniversaries, so Blitzed casts an eye over Spandau Ballet’s Parade, David Sylvian’s Brilliant Trees, Echo & The Bunnymen’s Ocean Rain, and Prince’s Purple Rain. Plus, an in-depth look at New York Dolls’ seminal Too Much Too Soon as that album marks its 50th anniversary. Plus, 21 lost songs of the Blitz era and beyond!

 

In reviews, we write on new releases by The The, Propaganda, Tim Bowness and Gavin Friday, as well as reissues and compilations including Ultravox, Bronski Beat, Alphaville, a-ha and Fairground Attraction. In books, we sum up Matthew Collins’ Dream Machines and Ian Wade’s 1984: The Year Pop Went Queer, as well as Lindsay Reade’s insightful memoir on Factory’s Tony Wilson.

 

There are also features on Kate Bush, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, U2 and a report from Rusty Egan’s album launch. In our ongoing Blitzed Film Club column, there’s a look at Alex Cox’s 1984 cult hit Repo Man.
