COVER: Modern Carpets & Textiles for Interiors is a quarterly magazine focused on the best fine rugs and textiles being designed and made today. COVER also looks at market trends and innovations and examines the role of rugs and textiles in interior design.
COVER 59, the issue for Summer 2020, focuses on the latest rug collections that didn’t get to shine at the Spring fairs and events due to the lockdown, and in our Rethinking section we take an in-depth look at the current pandemic situation and how it is likely to affect the rug industry.
New rug highlights come from cc-tapis, Tan, Jaipur Rugs, Warp & Weft and Designer Rugs plus wallhangings from Reuber Henning and designer Julie Richoz. Designed in lockdown, Matteo Cibic’s Domestic Jungle new rug series—a beautiful wilderness for the home— hits the spot and we celebrate the work of Joana Vasconcelos with a look at her current exhibition in Boston. We speak to Carol Sebert of Creative Matters Inc on how the brand became a go-to for interior designers and The Original looks at a 16th century Persian masterpiece. A report on caracal purpura, the purple dye from sea snails in Mexico, brings us to ecological thinking, as does our feature on the textile art of Tali Rothberg, which illustrates climate data.
Articles in COVER 59’s Rethinking section concentrate on the Covid-19 pandemic and the myriad ways it could affect the rug and design industries. We speak to individuals from the rug and textile worlds to find out their lockdown experiences and where they see things heading in the future. A look at the ever-growing wellness trend and a how interior design will be influenced by coronavirus also feature.
In the rest of the magazine, we speak to interior designer Rachel Chudley on using rugs and textiles, contemporary and antique, in the home and Edinburgh-based designer Sam Buckley gives the lowdown on using his rugs in interior projects and how Covid-19 could change design. As well as a host of new designs and designers, this issue also highlights online exhibitions to enjoy and looks head to shows that are happening in late Summer and beyond.
