Critical Communications Today:
Video analytics have huge potential in the realm of public safety, and while their main application at the moment revolves around the use of fixed security cameras, that could change once organisations are able to stream from vehicle-mounted and bodyworn video cameras. To get a feel for where the technology is going – along with some food for thought on governance and ethical issues – give Richard Martin’s piece on page 44 a read. Moving onto the rest of the issue, as many of you will be reading it after visiting Critical Communications World in Berlin, do give our piece on Germany and Austria’s critical communications markets a read (page 22). One of CCW’s big themes was the role that mobile network operators (MNOs) will play in public safety. See our interview with Tapio Savunen on MNO engagement on page 28 as well as Simon Creasey’s feature on page 10, which looks at the many difficulties associated with providing LTE coverage in rural areas.
