In April’s edition of JWC, a meta-analysis of the outcomes and a review of costs associated with incisional negative pressure wound therapy following abdominoplasty and abdominal free flap surgery are presented. A qualitative study examines the self-management perceptions and experiences of patients with hard-to-heal wounds. Treating diabetic foot ulcers with antimicrobial wound dressings impregnated with dialkylcarbamoyl chloride is evaluated. A systematic review synthesises and appraises the evidence of palliative care with negative pressure wound therapy application in malignant wounds. A retrospective analysis examines the topical treatment modalities in pressure ulcers. A prospective study evaluates the impact when two debilitating diseases collide – frailty and diabetic foot. Findings from a large, prospective observational multicentre study examining the efficiency of wound dressings with regards to debridement are presented, as are the results of validation tests of a compression pressure measuring device and its clinical impact. Commentary on the true incidence and cost of surgical site infection is provided, as is a report of a roundtable meeting on an advanced diagnostic imaging tool to enhance clinical decision-making and wound healing.
This month includes the Silk Road supplement. In this edition a 10-year retrospective study examines the impact of pre-hospital delays on the prognosis of older patients with diabetic foot ulcers. The safety and effectiveness of Merizelle oxidised regenerated cellulose in achieving haemostasis in surgical procedures is the focus of a surveillance study. The cross-localisation method of breast cancer wound imaging is evaluated. A case report describes the beneficial effects of high-intensity laser therapy on a perineal wound in a patient with rectal cancer, and the association between tinea pedis and foot care factors in patients with diabetes is assessed.
Research supplement papers include patient-reported outcomes on use of intralesional cryotherapy in the treatment of keloid scars, and a comparison of microbiological colonisation in the use of a transparent cover and elastic fixation band in patients with peripheral venous catheter.
