In this edition we take a look at agroecology and regenerative agriculture and how they sit alongside organic. Sarah Compson and Sam Packer look at the shared ambition of agroecology, regenerative agriculture and organic to move from an extractive to a restorative system of farming and how organic can be part of the conversation and lead the way. But understanding the concepts behind these terms is one thing, putting them into practice is another. And it’s made even more difficult as regenerative agriculture can mean different things to different people. Ben Eagle asked three farmers and growers about their understanding of regenerative agriculture and the methods they are using to restore land and enhance the farming landscape. Meanwhile Karen Fisher interviewed an organic, regenerative farmer from the Cotswolds. The final feature is Fibreshed and the rise of flock-to-shop and farm-to-yarn enterprises. Elsewhere there are articles on benchmarking, the importance of greater community inclusion in local food movements, herbal leys and feed supplements, organic viticulture and cover crops.
