May’s edition of JWC includes a qualitative study on patient preference with regard to negative pressure wound therapy and participation in wound care; a prospective study on the health-related quality of life of patients with hard-to-heal ulcers measured with the 15D instrument; and a pilot study evaluating the safety and tolerability of kinesiotaping as an add-on treatment in pressure injuries. The edition features two case reports: one detailing the treatment of a patient with hypervitaminosis D and hard-to-heal wounds; and another describing treatment of a Martorell hypertensive ischaemic leg ulcer involving a novel adjuvant therapy with intralesional sodium thiosulfate. A case series evaluates increased morbidities in pyoderma gangrenosum with extensive surgical debridement in Taiwan.
The supplement this month is the North American edition which features the clinical and economic risks of Medicare’s future effective cellular, acellular and matrix-like products (CAMPs) Local Coverage Determination and the hidden costs are described. A retrospective analysis of the efficacy of continuous topical oxygen therapy in hard-to-heal wounds in Colombia is presented. There is a comparison of oxygenation assessment methods for the interventional management of hard-to-heal wounds, and the implementation of a patient-initiated approach to patient-reported outcome measure research in hard-to-heal lower extremity wounds is described. The findings of an analysis of risk-based safety and quality management strategies in wound care trials at a tertiary, safety net hospital are also presented.
