BERWICK newcomer Reid Battye admits he's been through the wringer injury-wise over the years – and his debut championship season with the Bandits has already ground to a halt following his recent accident at Shielfield Park. In this week's edition, the Australian reveals: “It’s tough mentally but I’ve been through it before with previous experience with road racing where I’ve had some hard injuries and been in a lot tougher situations than I am now. You just go back to that cookie jar. I’ve actually broken my back before this. That was a much longer process. It was six weeks in a hospital bed and then another four to six months outside of hospital just recovering. That was quite hard. It was my back and pelvis. I’ve done both my legs, feet, collarbone. I’ve had a few. Yet I’ve only ever had one surgery, on my collarbone, the rest all healed themselves, which is quite good. It’s not a very old body but it’s been through a bit.”
