MARK Lemon and Australia are celebrating their first World Cup success since 2002 after overpowering Denmark, hosts Poland and Britain to win Saturday's Final in Warsaw. And Roos boss Lemo was quick to acknowledge the contribution of an unexpected source: “We have to give some credit to British speedway. A lot of these boys have come over from Australia and started their careers in British speedway, riding the tricky tracks. They honed their skills and when it comes to the indoor tracks, they adapt to them very well. Some of the foreign riders only ride on billiard-table smooth tracks and big, fast ones. When they have to get technical, they haven’t got the skill sets and the complete package. I think that was proved on Saturday. I grew up in an era when Australian speedway dominated, with the likes of Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, Todd Wiltshire, Craig Boyce, Jason Lyons and Ryan Sullivan. I’m so happy that these guys have had the same feeling. We are on top of the world.”
